Actionable Insights Terminology Guide

A quick reference to help you navigate Actionable dashboard and reporting tools so you can confidently share or debrief your data story.

Actionable Term Description

Dashboard

Collection of live charts or “widgets” organized to tell a specific data story.

Preset Dashboard

Dashboard templates created by Actionable for global use.

Custom Dashboard

A Dashboard you create, or a copy of a Preset Dashboard with modifications and saved in “My Dashboards” as a Personal dashboard.

 

Report

Specific view (i.e with a filter) of a dashboard, or a dashboard that is exported. Often used interchangeably with dashboard.

Widget

Charts or other objects in a dashboard that visualize data or insights.

Chart

Graphic representation of data (i.e. bar, line, pie, donut) in a widget.

Table

A chart type where data is displayed in rows and columns in the widget.

Single Value

A widget type where the measure is displayed as a single number (or less frequently text output) in a widget.

Key Metrics

Adoption (Commitments), Engagement (Check-ins), or Impact (Rating Change # or %)

Measure

The specific measure or data being calculated and displayed in a chart.e.g. Average Adoption % or Average Check-ins.

Filter

Used to restrict or select the data that shows in a dashboard or chart to focus on a smaller subset. 

Breakdown

An option when creating or editing a widget to choose how to organize your data in smaller categories for comparison. You can breakdown data by content (e.g. Commitment Themes or Program Objectives), program structure (e.g. Module, Groups), or by people based on client specific categories using custom fields (e.g. Department, Region, Role level).

Custom Fields

Additional data fields created in a client and assigned to Users typically via bulk upload. It can be used to organize or “break down” program data when customizing widgets. E.g. “Total Commitments by Department.”
