Does Actionable have Single Sign-On (SSO)?

Yes! We offer Single Sign-On (SSO), which gives you the ability to connect your preferred system with the Actionable platform for a seamless login experience.

What is SSO?

Single Sign-On (SSO) is an authentication process that allows users to access multiple applications with one set of login credentials. This streamlines the user experience by reducing the number of times a user must log in, thereby enhancing security and usability. With SSO, users only need to remember one username and password, reducing password fatigue.

What is SSO in relation to Actionable?

Single Sign-on can be set up between Actionable and either your own, or a client's existing login experience, learning system (LMS) or other platform. Once SSO is set up between Actionable and a secondary system, users can seamlessly access the Actionable platform without needing to create or manage a separate set of login credentials. Actionable integrates with the chosen system meaning that once a Participant is logged into one system they can access Actionable without having to sign-in again.

What do I need to consider before setting up SSO?

When setting up SSO, there are several considerations depending on the tools and systems you are using, and whether it's your own or your client's system.

SSO Standard:

Actionable is compatible with systems using SAML 2.0 authentication standard. Any systems integrating with Actionable need to support this standard.

SSO with a Learning Management System (LMS):

If you're using an LMS, you may want to implement SSO between Actionable and your LMS for a streamlined participant experience across platforms. Participants can then create commitments or access their Habit Builder dashboard directly from your learning platform without having to login again.

Before activating SSO, you'll want to work with your LMS provider to confirm:

  • they support SSO (and SAML 2.0 standard).
  • SSO is available at your current plan level.
  • what technical documentation is available to support SSO Integrations.

Choosing an Identity Provider (IdP):

An IdP manages identity authentication and authorization across multiple systems.

If your client wants to use their internal login system or their LMS as an IdP, Actionable can be configured to enable a seamless login through their existing authentication system.

If you are integrating Actionable into your own LMS or other system, you'll need to confirm if your system acts as an IdP,

Typically for your own LMS, you'll need a 3rd Party Service Provider to act as an IdP, which becomes the central login point for your Participants. Some examples of IdP Service Providers include Okta, Microsoft Azure, Google Workspace and Mini-Orange. An IdP will need to be identified and activated before you can activate SSO with Actionable.

Note: Users must be set up in the IdP to have access to Actionable once SSO is activated.

We have documentation available for Mini-Orange, Google Workspace, and Azure IdPs, but you'll want to source and select the solution or service provider that best suits your needs.

Ongoing Support for SSO:

Actionable will support the initial set up and configuration, but you'll want to have someone identified on your team (or your client's team) that will maintain SSO for your systems and users.

This will include regularly adding new users to your IdP and managing their permissions so they can access everything they need, as well as working with your other service providers to address questions or other technical support when needed. (Alternatively, Actionable has service options available!).

What's the next step to get SSO activated?

Beyond the information above, here's the next steps to activate SSO on the Actionable platform:

  1. Confirm that SSO is available on your plan: the option to add SSO is available on our ICP plan or higher. If this isn't your plan, you'll need to discuss options with our team.
There is an additional cost to activate SSO that includes initial configuration support and ongoing activation.
  2. Reach out to our team! Contact our Partner Success team via connect@actionable.co. When you reach out, we'll want to know if this is for your own system as a Consultant, or for a specific client.

We'll book time to confirm your needs and technical requirements, as well as pricing based on the type of SSO plan you need.
